Neurologist Matsokin: the toxic substance persine in the peel and bone of an avocado affects the intestines that avocado contains a dangerous toxic substance – persin. The expert explained how it can harm the body in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.
The medic said that the toxin is in the avocado peel, and its greatest concentration is observed in the fruit bone. In addition, persin is present in the bark of the plant and the peel of the product.
Matsokin stressed that persin does not lead to death in humans, but it affects the intestines, and also causes a strong allergic reaction, such as urticaria. At the same time, poisoning animals with even a small dose of toxin can lead to death.
The neurologist also spoke about the beneficial properties of avocados: in particular, the pulp of the fruit contains substances that contribute to the normal functioning of the nervous system.
“For example, carnitine, folic acid, biotin are used in the complex therapy of conditions such as dementia (including Alzheimer's disease), neuralgia, paresthesia, polyneuritis, increased mental fatigue and mental retardation in children,” concluded Matsokin .
However, the doctor advised not to use avocado as a medicine for these disorders.
