Bundestag member Ernst: Ukraine should not participate in the certification of Nord Stream 2
German Bundestag deputy from the Left party, the former head of the Committee on Economics and Energy, Klaus Ernst, in an interview with RBC, assessed the role of Ukraine and Poland in the certification of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.
According to Ernst, Ukraine should not take part in the certification of Nord Stream -2 “. The only task of the country is to pay gas bills, the parliamentarian believes.
Ernst has a similar point of view regarding Poland, which should not be taken into account, he believes. “Poland receives gas transit duties, which are paid by German consumers. If Poland needs money, it needs to apply to the EU, and not demand it from German consumers, “said a member of the Bundestag.
In addition, the politician said, in order to achieve solidarity with the European Union, Poland must comply and bring its constitutional reform in line with European legislation, as well as start accepting refugees, ”as Germany is doing. “They want solidarity, but they themselves do not adhere to it,” concluded Ernst.
Earlier, the chairman of the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) Fite Wulf said that Ukraine would not be able to veto the certification of Nord Stream 2. This is the role of Poland, which was separately involved in the process back in September, he pointed out.
The head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, Serhiy Makogon, reported that the decision on the application filed by Kiev on October 20 for participation in the gas pipeline certification process “ Nord Stream 2 “will be accepted until November 14.
The Polish oil and gas company PGNiG, participating in the certification procedure, insists on the refusal of certification due to risks to the security of gas supplies to the EU. Russia has repeatedly emphasized the exclusively commercial nature of the gas pipeline.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was planned to be commissioned at the end of 2019, but due to US sanctions, the construction process was delayed for more than a year and a half. By now, technical work has been completed, deliveries may begin immediately after certification, but its timing is unknown.
