Ukraine checked passengers on a WizzAir plane that landed in Kiev due to fog in Moscow
In November, he operated a flight from Budapest to Moscow, but landed in Kiev because of the fog in the Russian capital. An informed source told Lenta.ru about the new data on the incident.
According to the interlocutor of the publication, the Ukrainian authorities did it for verification. “The fact that the Ukrainian authorities first gave permission to fly to Moscow, and then revoked it – a game of time – they checked the list of passengers. They probably wanted to find something, because there were only citizens of the Russian Federation on board, “he said, noting that the check could have been carried out by the security forces.
One of the passengers told REN TV about the transfer of the passenger lists to the Ukrainian authorities. The Russian noted that the employees of the Ukrainian aviation harbor requested passenger data and took copies from the lists, but WizzAir representatives did not want to do this. “She said that the list should be provided only at the airport at the destination,” the passenger said.
As the source of “Lenta.ru” clarified, the crew had no choice. “They were forced to provide the data, as they probably hoped that this would give them the opportunity to fly to Moscow, and not back to Budapest. If the list had not been transmitted, passengers could hang in Kiev for a long time, but the crew understood the hopelessness of the situation that had occurred, and acted promptly. Passengers could not wait long, “he said.
On November 2, Airbus А321 flew from Budapest to Moscow, but landed in Kiev due to fog in the Russian capital. Ukraine banned the liner from flying to Moscow after refueling, so it went back to Hungary. According to the interlocutor of “Lenta.ru”, the citizens of Russia, who were on board, were shocked because of the pilot's decision to land in Kiev. Upon arrival in Budapest, passengers were given the opportunity to fly to the Russian capital on another flight of the airline for free, at which time they were checked into a hotel. Many refused to fly with WizzAir and chose another airline.
Regular flights between Russia and Ukraine were terminated in October 2015 at the initiative of Kiev. Since April 2019, irregular flights between the countries have also ceased.
