A European couple who suffered from wind turbines have sued 100 thousand euros for damage to health human health. Christelle and Luc Fokert, living in the south of France, suffered from a long stay near the turbines, proved this in court and received 100 thousand euros in damages. The Guardian writes about it.
In 2008, wind turbines were installed 700 meters from the house of the spouses Sasu, Margnes Energie and Sasu Singladou Energie. Five years later, Europeans faced constant malaise – headaches and depression became more frequent, nausea, heart and sleep problems appeared.
At first, the couple assumed that the deforestation had a negative effect on their health, but then they found out that it had been blown up by the neighborhood with six windmills – their blades made a loud noise, and the light blinked every two seconds. “We had to install ambient lighting to neutralize the flash effect,” said Christelle Fokert. However, doctors did not find significant changes in the condition of the French. In 2015, the couple moved from the area and noted that their health problems had disappeared.
The true cause of Christelle and Luca's discomfort was named by the forensic scientist. The specialist explained it by the so-called “turbine syndrome”, in which diseases can arise or worsen against the background of flickering light and strong noise from wind turbines. The first French lawsuit against energy companies was dismissed by the court in 2020, after which they filed an appeal, where experts proved the harmful effects of wind turbines. The hearing in the case took place – as a result, the wind farm managers of the company paid the victims 100 thousand euros, and also changed the speed of work and lighting on six turbines.
The lawyer of the couple Alice Terrasse noted that earlier similar complaints there have been no reports from those living near the wind farms, and a successful Fokkert decision may prompt other Europeans to cash in on energy companies. However, the expert noted that the designs of wind turbines differ from different manufacturers, so each case must be considered individually. The lawyer added that now the owners of wind farms will have to thoroughly check the safety of the turbines for the population.
At the end of October, experts warned about the dangers of heating to health. Hot air in rooms can cause dryness of the mucous membranes of the nose, throat and bronchi, where the immune cells are located. In such an environment, it is easier for bacteria to multiply, and it is more difficult for the body to resist disease.
