Washington handed over to the European Union data on the Russian military near the border with Ukraine

Süddeutsche Zeitung: The US turned to the EU because of the Russian army near the border with Ukraine

Washington turned to the countries of the European Union (EU) and The European Liaison Service due to the alleged pulling of the Russian army to the border with Ukraine, writes the daily German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing diplomatic sources.

Risk of escalation

The author of the article said that the US at the end of last week appealed to the Foreign Ministries of Germany, Great Britain and France.

The reason is the concentration of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine and the associated high potential for escalation.

The journalist clarified that Washington has passed on data to its partners regarding the movement of the Russian military near the borders. US President Joe Biden, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome, called on Acting German Chancellor Angela Merkel to increase pressure on Moscow over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the author added.

Refused to comment

The American Embassy in Berlin, at the request of the publication, refused to comment on the content of diplomatic contacts with Europe. A spokesman for the diplomatic mission said that the United States' “unshakable support” for the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine in front of the alleged “Russian aggression” should not raise any doubts.

The Federal Chancellor's Office said that Berlin does not like “actions” Russia in relation to Ukraine. “Moscow's behavior is testing Germany's patience,” the newspaper writes with reference to politicians.

Repeated accusations

Relations between Moscow and Kiev deteriorated against the background of the events of 2014, when Crimea became part of Russia after a referendum in which the majority of the region's residents supported such a decision. Ukraine, EU countries and the United States refused to recognize the results of the vote. In the same year, the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics appeared.

Washington has previously stated about the “activity” of the Russian military on the border with Ukraine. So, on Friday, November 5, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the US Department of Defense is tracking “unusual” tactics of Russian military personnel near Donbass. The Russian embassy in Washington replied that American interest in the movement of Russians is perplexing.

It is perplexing that the press services of the State Department and the Pentagon are concerned about the movement of the Russian Armed Forces on their own territory, within the Russian borders. Look in the mirror – US troops are moving irresponsibly around the world. They leave behind chaos.

On October 30, the American newspaper The Washington Post wrote about the increase in the number of Russian troops on the border. According to the newspaper, “unusual movements” were recorded after the completion of the large-scale exercises “West-2021”. The United States recalled that they are monitoring the situation.

Foreign Ministry response

According to Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, editorial offices began to write materials against Moscow “as if on cue in a real panic attack.” She urged not to believe fakes.

American journalists happily published a fake, providing it with pictures and videos that question their critical thinking.

The Kremlin also reacted to reports of Russian tanks. The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov called them stuffing.

No need to waste time getting to know such low-quality stuffing.
