Süddeutsche Zeitung: The US turned to the EU because of the Russian military near the border with Ukraine 
The US turned to the European External Action Service and states of the European Union (EU) due to the alleged increase in Russian troops near the border with Ukraine. This was reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper with reference to diplomatic sources.
According to the newspaper, at the end of this week the US applied to the European External Action Service, as well as the foreign ministries of Germany, France and Great Britain. “The reason is the concentration of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine and the associated high potential for escalation,” the newspaper notes.
At the same time, the American embassy in Berlin refused to comment on the content of diplomatic contacts with Europe. However, he said that “the unwavering US support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression” should not raise doubts.
