Press secretary Peskov: a videoconference is being prepared with the participation of Putin, Aliyev and Pashinyan and Armenia. Press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told Interfax on Sunday, November 7.
The Kremlin official noted that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will take place in videoconference format. According to media reports, the meeting will be timed to coincide with the anniversary of the signing of the trilateral document, after which the war in Nagorno-Karabakh was stopped.
In October, the Armenian Prime Minister avoided answering a question about a possible trip to Nagorno-Karabakh.
In 1991, Nagorno-Karabakh, mainly inhabited by Armenians, declared independence from Azerbaijan, which tried to return it by force. In 1994, Armenia, Azerbaijan and NKR signed a truce, but it was periodically violated.
On September 27, 2020, battles began on the line of contact between Azerbaijan and NKR. The parties accused each other of provocation. In November, the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan adopted a ceasefire statement. As a result of the war, Baku regained control of part of the territories lost in the 1990s.
