British scientists: the first sign of alcohol dementia is memory impairment
Many people are at risk of serious brain damage from alcohol. This was reported by the British charity “Society of Alzheimer's”, which is engaged in research on dementia, writes Express.
According to scientists, every tenth patient with dementia has brain problems caused by alcohol. Dementia, which occurs when the brain is severely damaged by alcohol, is called Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.
According to their research, the first sign of alcohol dementia is memory impairment. In this case, the patient can fill in the gaps in his memory with fictitious events in which he will believe. In addition, an inability to process information, new skills and personality changes can also indicate alcohol dementia.
The experts explained that alcohol suppresses the ability to absorb vitamin B1, which is necessary for the nervous system to function properly.
