Three years after the proclamation of the “Caliphate” by the leader of the terrorist organization “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia), the group has lost more than 60 percent of the territory, which was controlled initially, and about 80 percent of the revenue. In this regard, the researchers predict a collapse of the organization until the end of the year. This is evidenced by the research of the analytical company IHS, Markit, published on Thursday, June 29.
By 26 June of this year ISIS controlled 36 200 square kilometers, which is comparable with the territory of Belgium or the U.S. state of Maryland. It is 40 percent less than at the beginning of 2017, and 60 per cent lower than in January 2015, when for the first time estimated the territory of the “Islamic state” spread to 90,8 thousand square kilometers in Syria and Iraq.
“Three years after the proclamation of the “Caliphate” it becomes obvious that the project management organization has failed, — said the chief analyst for the Middle East, IHS, Markit, Columb Stark. — “The Caliphate” is likely to collapse before the end of the year, under his control will remain a number of isolated areas.” According to experts, all these sites will be released during 2018.
The report also noted a sharp reduction in monthly income from 81 million dollars in the second quarter of 2015 to $ 16 million in the second quarter of 2017. The reason analysts see the suppression of channels of financing members of the group: the production and sale of oil, the income from high taxes, confiscation. So the income from the sale of oil was reduced by 88 percent.
It is noted that the closer the IG is to collapse, the higher will be the level of terrorist threat in the world.
Members of the terrorist organization “Islamic state” under the leadership of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi proclaimed a worldwide Caliphate on 29 June 2014.
