The foreign Minister of Germany Sigmar Gabriel hoped that the US administration will look for an opportunity to restart relations with Russia and create new contacts with Moscow. He stated this in an interview published by Welt am Sonntag.

“It would be nice if the new US administration was looking for a new start in relations with Russia, new contacts, new conversations, – said Gabriel. – Without Russia we will not be able to cope with conflicts in Syria, Libya, Ukraine, and other parts of the planet.”

“The attempt of Barack Obama to humiliate Russia was a big mistake. I continue to hope that Washington will fix this problem,” – said the German Minister. At the same time he stated that “at present it looks thus that Washington and Moscow soon turn away from each other.”

Obama as a US President once called Russia a “regional power”, but later acknowledged the Russian “superpower” that has influence in the world.
