The majority of Russians (62%) considered it important that father’s Day was adopted as the official holiday, it follows from the results of a survey of the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM) at the disposal of RIA Novosti.
According to the data, 37% of respondents fully agree that father’s Day adopted as a public holiday, 25% of respondents “rather agree” with this idea. Against the official establishment of the father’s Day spoke 36% of Russians.
Speaking of that, when father’s Day should be installed, 30% expressed the opinion that it doesn’t matter; 16% said that the celebration should be on the third Sunday of June in most countries of the world; another 16% expressed the opinion that father’s Day should be celebrated on the last Sunday of October, a date close to the birthday of children’s Prince Dmitry Donskoy.
The main significance of celebrating such holidays as father’s Day, mother’s Day and the Day of family, love and fidelity, the Russians have called the fact that these days people think about family values (44%); 39% of respondents believe that the holidays are a wonderful reason to spend time with your family; 36% of respondents believe that these days people have the opportunity to Express my gratitude to your family for caring. According to VTSIOM, 14% of respondents hold the opposite opinion, saying they did not see the significance of these events in the life of the family.
“Promotion of family values, the formation at the stage of socialization of the youth role models of responsible parenthood (including the “responsible fatherhood”) – important tasks that will ensure the harmonious upbringing of the younger generation. The tradition of celebrating father’s Day (regardless of whether this holiday is recognized officially or not) helps to focus on the specific impact of fathers on the development of the individual, increasing their social status in society” — are the words of the Director of research VTSIOM Elena Mikhailova.
The initiative Russian opinion “polls-Sputnik” held on June 10-11, among Russians over the age of 18 by phone interviews 1.2 thousand respondents. For this sample the maximum size of the error does not exceed 3.5%.
