Vladimir Putin has ruled out the possibility of appointing the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), it must elect the academic community. This was stated by Andrei Fursenko, commenting on the meeting of the President with the academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RIA Novosti reported.
According to the assistant to the President, during the may 30 meeting “candidacy was not discussed, not mentioned no name.” The participants discussed the issues of further development of the RAS, to increase its efficiency, and integrate academic research.
20 Mar all the applicants for the position of President of the Russian Academy of Sciences withdrew during its annual General meeting. The members of the Academy saw the need of creating a new Charter for the election of its head.
Currently, the duties of the President of the RAS assigned to the RAS academician Valery Kozlov. New elections of the head wounds could take place in autumn 2017.
