Announced start date of the presidential campaign in Russia
The beginning of the presidential campaign in Russia will be announced in December this year, was announced today by the Secretary of the CEC, Maya Grishina. “In the case of adoption and entry into force of the law is the period from December 7 to December 17,” said Grishina told reporters.
Today the state Duma adopted in the third final reading a package of laws about the cancellation of absentee ballots in the election. It includes an amendment according to which elections can be postponed to the following Sunday, if the week is non-working holiday.
In 2018 presidential elections have for the week, which falls on international women’s day on 8 March, so they are transferred to Sunday 18 March, that coincided with the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
“We are later than [the elections], the better”, — said earlier the Chairman of the CEC, Ella Pamfilova. According to her, the end of December and beginning of January is “off season”: the time is actually deducted from election campaigns.
