Kiev acknowledged that would not be able to completely shut down access to Russian social networks

Users will be able to find ways around the blocking of “Vkontakte” and “Classmates”, said the national security Council and defense of Ukraine.

KIEV, may 17 — RIA Novosti. The Ukrainian authorities will not be able to completely close the access to the Russian social networks “Vkontakte” and “Odnoklassniki” users will be able to get around bans, said the head of the information security apparatus of the national security and defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Valentin Petrov.

Earlier, Ukraine imposed sanctions against a number of Russian media, the country is also prohibited access to social networks “Vkontakte”, “Classmates” and resources “Yandex” and Mail.ru. Company Mail.Ru Group, which owns the social network “Vkontakte” and “Classmates”, and sent to the Ukrainian users instructions on how to use its services to bypass the lock access.

“We understand that completely cover (access to social networks — ed.) is impossible, but reducing this cycle, we reduce a threat,” said Petrov at the round table devoted to introduction of sanctions against Russia. He argues that through these social networks is spreading “Russian propaganda”.

Tuesday was promulgated the decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on may 15, by which it adopted the decision of the national security Council on the renewal and expansion of the list of natural and legal persons of the Russian Federation in respect of which the sanctions. The extended list included 1228 468 individuals and legal entities.

The decision on new sanctions drew criticism from both the Internet Association and from the public. At the moment, 40 petitions, appeals not to block the social networks “Vkontakte” and “Classmates”, as well as resources “Yandex” and Mail.ru was on the website of the President of Ukraine. Besides, the Ukrainian Internet companies and providers are not prepared to make this decision and not know how to implement it.
