MOSCOW, may 17. /TASS/. Pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Viktor Gorbatko died Wednesday in Moscow on 83-m to year of life, reported TASS a source in the space industry.
“Gorbatko died today at 4 in the morning. The last time he felt bad and the last two weeks was in the hospital Mandryka, where he died today in intensive care,” — said the Agency interlocutor.
According to him, the time and place of the funeral are not yet known.
Viktor Gorbatko was born on 3 Dec 1934. In 1960, he entered the first squad of cosmonauts. On account Gorbatko three space flights in 1969, 1977 and 1980. In addition, in 1970 he became one of the participants of the first ever chess match between the earth and the crew of the ship, for which he was admitted to the honorary members of the Central chess club of the USSR.
