May 12 marks the 90th anniversary of the experimental design Bureau (OKB). A. S. Yakovlev. On this day in 1927, the pilot Yulian Piontkovsky raised in the air light sport aircraft (aviette) air-1, created by a team under the guidance of the famous aircraft designer Alexander Yakovlev. He is the founder of model aircraft and gliding in the Soviet Union.

Now Yakovlev is included in the structure of JSC “Corporation Irkut” (part of United aircraft Corporation, KLA).

The history of the design Bureau

  • Aviette air-1 was created in 1926-1927 in Moscow a group of designers in the initiative order, the development of the vehicle was not decorated in any order. The aircraft designer Alexander Yakovlev worked as a mechanic in the air force Academy of the workers and peasants ‘ red Army (RKKA VVA). July 19, 1927 air-1 made a record non-stop flight on the route Sevastopol – Moscow (1 thousand 420 km in 15 h 30 min).
  • In 1931, Alexander Yakovlev graduated from the VVA of the red army, he received the diploma engineer and was assigned to the aviation plant No. 39 im. V. R. Menzhinsky (Moscow), where he established a formalized group of light aviation.
  • In 1931-1934 this team designed and built the aircraft of air of different designs, with different performance characteristics.
  • In January 1934 the group was in a separate design-production Bureau (CPB) Specificita of the Main Department of aviation industry (GUAP) of the USSR. In the same year, the Bureau was renamed the Plant light aircraft, then the Plant number 115.
  • In 1940 came the decision of the State defense Committee of the USSR on assignment to the Soviet aircraft names by the first letters of the names of the designers; new single-seat fighter factory 115 received the name Yak-1.
  • In 1966 the enterprise was renamed the Moscow machine-building plant (MMZ) “Speed”. Alexander Yakovlev was the main (1935-1956), then General (1956-1984) the designer of the plant. In 1990, the company was named after him.
  • 31 Aug 1993 MMZ “Speed” to them. Yakovlev, like a number of other state-owned enterprises were corporatized in accordance with the decree of Russian President Boris Yeltsin on July 1, 1992 Since 1996 – JSC “OKB them. A. S. Yakovlev”.
  • In 2009, on the basis of the OKB collective was formed by Engineering center. A. S. Yakovlev in the Scientific and production Corporation “Irkut” (part of UAC).
