Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that he discussed with the American President Donald trump and Secretary of state, Rex Tillerson cooperation between Russia and the United States in the international arena.
The Russian Minister said that after talks with Tillerson agreed that international problems should be solved together, RIA “Novosti”.
“It was confirmed that, despite all the difficulties, our countries can and must work together to help solve key issues on the international agenda”, – said the head of the Russian foreign Ministry.
With trump and Tillerson, continued Lavrov discussed Syria and the establishment of zones of de-escalation. Lavrov called it a step towards reducing violence in the Arab state.
Lavrov said that trump confirmed the interest to build mutually beneficial relations between Russia and the United States, reports TASS.
At the same time, the issue of anti-Russian sanctions at the talks was raised, the Minister said.
Lavrov also expressed hope that the situation with the Russian departmentu in the US will be allowed without damage to bilateral relations. He noted that the trump realizes that Obama’s actions against the Russian diplomatic property in the United States was unlawful.
“As President (Vladimir) Putin when these decisions Barack Obama has announced, we have every right to reciprocate. Americans know how this reciprocity would look like, if it comes,” said Lavrov, noting that the Russian government has decided not to respond, not to go on about those who are trying “to suck into the vortex” relations between Russia and the United States.
“I hope that they will manage this situation to defuse, without the aggravation of our relations,” – said the Russian Minister.
The administration of U.S. President Barack Obama at the end of December 2016 closed access to two residential complexes, the so – called suburban “summer cottages” Russia’s permanent mission in new York and the Russian Embassy in Washington, which is the Russian diplomatic property.
The Minister called fabrications media reports that Russia allegedly affects domestic U.S. politics. He stressed that such accusations create an unhealthy background. The foreign Minister said that “bacchanalia” around the topic was not raised at the meeting with trump.
Lavrov noted that at the moment, the dialogue between Russia and the United States free from ideologized, which was under the previous American President Barack Obama. He said that during the talks in Washington was convinced that trump is a “people business”, they can work to resolve the issues.
The meeting of Lavrov and trump lasted for just over an hour.
