Before laying ceremony, the Prime Minister met with local veterans and congratulated them on the upcoming Victory Day.
Military parades in honor of May 9 this year to be held in 28 cities of Russia, including in Mosque, Saint-Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Ulan-Ude, Novosibirsk, Samara and Vladikavkaz. In the Victory Parade in the capital for the first time will take part the military police and will be shown military equipment in Arctic weather conditions. In the past year, according to the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM), at the festive events dedicated to the 71st anniversary of the Victory in the great Patriotic war, was attended by 24 million people.
28 Sep 1968 in Smolensk was lit the Eternal flame brought from Moscow from the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Lit the fire of the Soviet hero Egorov hoisted in 1945 the Victory Banner over the Reichstag.
