The deployment of missile defense the United States may create a temptation in the “hot heads” in Washington to act bypassing the UN Security Council, as in the missile strike on the airbase shirt in Syria. This is stated in the commentary of the Russian foreign Ministry in connection with the publication of U.S. state Department report on compliance by States of agreements in the field of arms control and non-proliferation.
“The presence of an anti-missile “umbrella” can lead to pernicious illusions of invulnerability and impunity, and therefore to give rise to temptation in the “hot heads” in Washington to the new threat of unilateral steps in solving global and regional problems in circumvention of the UN Security Council and contrary to common sense, as was done on April 7… when the United States launched a missile attack on the sovereign state of Syria,” — noted in the text.
As stated in the foreign Ministry, the US plans to deploy in Poland missile systems Aegis Ashore systems, capable of launching missiles “Tomahawk”, are a flagrant violation of the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range nuclear forces (INF).
The foreign Ministry also accused Washington of misinformation on the performance of its obligations under the INF. “For many years, the United States simply ignore Russian serious concerns of direct relevance to the implementation of the American party to the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range”, — stated in the message.
Washington leads unsubstantiated arguments, accusing Russia of violating the INF Treaty, said the Agency. “The United States… launched a campaign in public, is totally unfounded charges Russia violating the INF Treaty: that our country produces and tests prohibited by the Treaty cruise missiles are land-based. No argument that can back up put forward to us of a claim and is not shown. Handed over to the American side, “information”, supposedly allowing you to identify what it is, in fact, is a fragmentary fragmentary signals, does not clarify what is still insolvent based American concerns,” — said the foreign Ministry.
In Moscow expressed concern over the fact that officials in Washington are trying to use such “facts” as a pretext for “promotion of the next campaign” to impose new sanctions against Russia.
The INF Treaty prohibits parties from possessing ballistic missiles, land-based and cruise missiles with a range of from 500 to 5.5 thousand kilometers. Russia and the United States periodically put forward mutual accusations of violating INF Treaty signed in 1987.
