The electoral Commission registered the initiative group of a referendum on Isaac

Moscow. March 28. INTERFAX.RU — the Election Commission of St. Petersburg at the meeting on Tuesday has registered the initiative group for the organization of a referendum on the issue of membership of St. Isaac’s Cathedral.

March 14 the election Commission refused to register the initiative group of the referendum because the petition did not meet the requirements of the law. However, right at the meeting of the Commission, the Deputy of Legislative Assembly of Petersburg Boris Vishnevsky handed to the Chairman of municipal electoral Committee Viktor Pankiewicz a new application, which was fixed.

The initiative group of citizens has submitted to the city electoral Commission of Saint-Petersburg requisition the holding of a referendum on the issue of membership of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Peter and Paul Cathedral and Savior on spilled blood. The initiative group consisted of 22 people, including six members of the Legislative Assembly from the “Yabloko”, “Fair Russia” and the “party of growth”, the representatives of the St. Petersburg Union of scientists, the Russian Union of culture workers and local activists.

The citizens are invited to answer the following question: “do you Agree with what belongs to the monuments of history and culture of Federal significance and owned by the St. Petersburg St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Saviour on the spilt Blood and Peter and Paul Cathedral must be fixed on the operational administration right for the state museums, with the possibility of conducting religious rites and ceremonies?”.

According to the authors, all three of the Cathedral should remain part of the state museums and not be transferred to religious organizations provided them in Church services.
