Shoigu said the development of nuclear forces of Russia “an absolute priority”
The development of strategic nuclear forces is a priority for Russia. This was stated by defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, reports TASS.
On the role of nuclear weapons for Russia, the Minister said in his speech at the all-Russian youth forum “International military-political and military-economic cooperation: current trends” at MGIMO.
Shoigu noted that over time the role of nuclear weapons will inevitably decline due to the development of high-precision weapons
Despite that Shoigu confirmed that the development of nuclear power remains a priority for Russia.

Shoigu stressed that Russia has precision weapons that allows us to speak about reducing the role of nuclear deterrent. The number of samples of such weapons by the Minister of transferred cruise missiles of sea basing “Caliber”, missile complexes “Iskander”, modern missiles, aircraft of strategic aviation. Some of these weapons used successfully against terrorists in Syria, said Shoigu.
Earlier, on January 12, Sergei Shoigu admitted the possibility that future precision weapons will be the main deterrent for security threats. The Minister noted that the Russian army by 2021 plans four times to enhance the combat capabilities of its conventional forces.
