In Sicily lit up the ferry that served as a hotel at the Olympics in Sochi

ROME, 19 Feb — RIA Novosti, Alexander Logunov. The fire occurred Sunday morning on the ferry in the Italian port of Palermo, told RIA Novosti in the management of the coast guard of the Sicilian city.

As informs television channel Rainews24, on Board were 113 passengers and 75 crew members.

Ferry Snav Toscana operates regular flights from Naples to Palermo, and in 2014 was chartered as a floating hotel at the winter Olympics in Sochi.

The fire started in the engine room of the vessel when it was located about a mile from the shore, then the ferry returned to port. In extinguishing the fire, according to the report, was attended by numerous firefighters, coastguards, police and carabinieri.

The captain of the ship handed over the leadership of the Sicilian port as a result of incident nobody has suffered, the whole situation is under control

“The fire was liquidated at 8.34 (10.34 GMT). Evacuation of passengers was not needed thanks to the quick actions of the rescue services. People are calm, no one was hurt,” — told RIA Novosti by telephone representative of the coast guard Nikola Benenati.
