Queen Elizabeth II opened the London Centre for the protection from hackers
Queen Elizabeth II opened the new London national cybersecurity Center (NCSC).
The objective of the Centre is to provide more complete protection for the UK against cyber attacks and to coordinate actions in case of such incidents.
“We want Britain became the most difficult target,” said the head of the NCSC Kieran Martin in interview Bi-bi-si.
NCSC argues that serious cyber-attacks in the UK occur about 60 times per month, an average of twice a day
For the last three months NCSC found 188 such attacks of the 2nd and 3rd categories.
Although the attacks of the first category (most dangerous) while was detected, the Center is ready for any development of events.
“We were faced with a major identity theft, invasions of the representatives of hostile States, data collection on critical national infrastructure, and our goal is to as efficiently as possible to deal with it,” says Kieran Martin.
NCSC protects not only government agencies and businesses, but also entire economy and society as a whole.
The UK economy is largely dependent on digital technology, annually brings to the Treasury of over 118 billion pounds
The authorities are not only concerned about the possibility that hackers can hack into the infrastructure, for example, to disable power plants, but also because of actions of criminals the public and businesses may lose confidence in the digital economy.
Of particular concern to experts is Russia, especially after recent reports that she has resorted to cyber attacks to influence the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.
“In my opinion, Russia has significantly changed its approach to cyber attacks and is ready to use them, which means we have to be ready for this,” says Kieran Martin.
The authorities of Germany and France have warned of possible intervention from other States in passing this year in their countries elections.
The head of the NCSC, however, said that at the moment there is no indication that the democratic process in the UK suffered similar attacks.
But he adds that “it is the less obvious trend is that for the Russian attacks to the West, on a critical national industry, and intervention in political and democratic processes”.
NCSC will work with political parties and members of Parliament, giving them advice on how best to protect the security of your personal data.
Britain is already taking counter-attack against computer systems in other countries in cases where foreign hackers cannot be prosecuted, or when the authorities of another country refuse to cooperate with the British authorities.
“In the most serious cases we have the legal right to attack the enemies infrastructure, the infrastructure that they use for attacks against us. In the most serious cases, we resort to this method dozens of times a year,” said Kieran Martin.
Until recently, cyber security for the UK has said the government communications Centre (GCHQ), but business representatives and some human rights organizations accused him of excessive secrecy
NCSC intends to be more open to the General public. The center also protects not only government and military organizations, but also business.
NCSC continues to is part of GCHQ, and thus has access to the intelligence and experience of its employees.
GCHQ often detects the under attack computer systems, studying the Internet activity of opponents.
So GCHQ has discovered that Russian hackers have infiltrated the servers of the US Democratic party, what they then reported to the American authorities.
NCSC will also look for weaknesses in the protection of computer networks of government agencies, to help them deal with the interception of e-mail and close tens of thousands of fake sites engaged in phishing.
In November 2016, the UK government unveiled a five-year plan of the national cyber security strategy, setting aside 1.9 billion pounds.
