Russian President Vladimir Putin and the elected President of the United States Donald trump held their first consultation, and the American side said that they were positive reported close to the Republican party American political scientist, President of “Center for the national interest,” Dimitri Simes.
“Consultations have taken place and ended yesterday. And the team trump told me, they view these conversations in a very positive way,” said Simes in the program “60 minutes” on TV channel “Russia 1”.
He stressed that this was not a negotiation, but “preliminary consultations on how to conduct meaningful negotiations after his inauguration.”
“There was no discussion of how to solve specific issues. This, of course, will be done after the inauguration. But preliminary conversations, as I have heard, not only took place, but looked promising. But this is the first, easy stage. Difficult, of course, remains ahead,” added symes.
“The level was quite serious,” said the American analyst.
American political scientist Dimitri Simes, head of the NGO “Center for the national interest.” The center’s programs cover the topics of energy security, climate change, immigration and national security and U.S. relations with China, Japan, Mexico and Russia. The center is funded by foundations, corporations and individual contributions. In addition to working in the centre symes also known as the publisher of foreign policy magazine the National Interest.
The political scientist was born in Moscow, educated at Moscow state University. M. V. Lomonosov and for some time was engaged in scientific activity, and then emigrated to the United States. In 1970-e years worked as a freelance adviser to President Richard Nixon on foreign policy. Has repeatedly met with top Russian leadership including President Vladimir Putin and foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
