Vladimir Putin
The President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. This was reported on the Kremlin website.
During the meeting, which was held at the initiative of the Russian side, they discussed issues of further development of bilateral cooperation in various fields, as well as the crisis in the middle East and North Africa.
The sides agreed to continue contacts.
Monday, June 5, Putin during a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the situation around Qatar. The heads of state called on all concerned countries to dialogue to find compromise solutions in the interests of peace and stability in the Gulf region. The parties stressed the need for teamwork and coordination of the international community to combat terrorism.
Also Mr Putin and Mr Erdogan discussed practical implementation of agreements on creation of zones of de-escalation in Syria.
Earlier, on 5 June, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE announced the rupture of diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorist organisations, including the banned in Russia “Islamic state” (IG) and “al-Qaeda”, as well as committing acts to destabilize the political situation in these Arab States. A little later they were joined by Yemen, Libya and the Maldives.
Qatar responded that the allegations of Doha as the abettor of terrorism is unfounded.
