Russia and the DPRK for the first time linked the ferry
The Russian Consul General in Contin Yuri Bochkarev noted that the ferry service will contribute to the development of regional tourism and trade ties between the two countries.
PYONGYANG, may 17. /Offset. TASS Yuri Sidorov/. Belonging to the DPRK’s ship Mangyongbong-92 went from the city of Rason in Vladivostok with a small group of Chinese tourists on Board. This was reported to TASS correspondent in Pyongyang on the phone, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Contin Yuri Bochkarev. The diplomat participated in this event dedicated to the ceremony which took place in Rajin, the main port special economic and trade zones (SEZ) of Rason.
Thus, the source said, the DPRK and Russia “for the first time opened the passenger ferry, which will contribute to the development of regional tourism and trade relations between Russia and the DPRK”.
The ceremony was made by the head of Department of Maritime and road transport in Rason Lee Bo IR. He expressed confidence that the project “will give an impetus to development of relations between the DPRK and Russia in the field of trade and tourism.” Among the speakers were Russian President Vladimir Baranov, registered in the Rason company “Roskor” with 100% foreign capital, which became the operator of the new regular route.

The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the people’s Committee of Rason city, the students and teachers located there Institute of marine transport workers of the port. Ferry Mangyongbong-92 with the Korean crew can accommodate up to 200 passengers and about 1,5 thousand tons of cargo.
At the first stage it will run between Regina and Vladivostok four times a month.
Special trade and economic zone Rason (Rajin-Sonbong) is located in the North-East, North and bordered by the Chinese province of Jilin and Russia’s Primorsky territory. In the 1990s, years after the establishment of the SEZ, Pyongyang has launched a wide range of activities to attract foreign companies. At the same time active work on modernization of the infrastructure in this region.
