Russians warned about the encephalitis virus in raw milk

Rospotrebnadzor urged residents of areas endemic for tick-borne viral encephalitis, to refrain from consumption of raw goat milk. About it RIA Novosti was informed in the press service of the Ministry, on Monday, may 8.

“Mites attack small cattle grazing on the grass. If the tick is infected, the virus can get into raw milk”, — said the Agency interlocutor. To avoid infection, he said, milk should be boiled.

The Ministry added that the reason for the early activation of the ticks became abnormal heat and the active melting of snow in March.

As of April 28, as part of preventive and anti-epidemic measures in the territory of Russia was carried out acaricidal treatment 78 thousand hectares of land. In total it is planned to carry out processing more than 120 thousand hectares.

Tick-borne viral encephalitis is a serious infectious disease with a primary lesion of the Central nervous system that can lead to disability and death. The carrier of the virus is an infected tick.

In 2015 the number of victims from the bite of a tick of Russians increased by 24.4 percent compared to 2014. Almost 50 percent of all infected people in the country had on the Siberian Federal district. Of the 2308 cases of tick-borne encephalitis 379 were registered in the Krasnoyarsk region — the highest figure in Russia.
