In Moscow celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The memorial tomb of the Unknown Soldier, installed in the Alexander garden in Moscow, Wednesday, may 8, was 50 years old.

In the celebrations on this occasion was attended by members of the Collegium of the defense Ministry of Russia led by chief of General staff of Armed forces Valery Gerasimov. As reported RIA Novosti, they laid a wreath at the monument and observed a minute of silence in memory of soldiers killed during the great Patriotic war. The event was also attended by veterans-veterans.

The ceremony ended with the solemn March of the honor guard.

The memorial flowers laid by the mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin.

The memorial tomb of the Unknown Soldier was erected in memory of the soldiers who died fighting during the great Patriotic war. The monument was officially opened on may 8, 1967, the inscription on it reads: “your Name is unknown, your deed is immortal”. The eternal flame at the Kremlin wall then lit General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev, who took the torch from the hero of the Soviet Union, the legendary military pilot Alexei Maresyev.
