Tillerson expressed hope for new meetings with Lavrov
Moscow. May 6. INTERFAX.RU — U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson is counting on a new meeting with Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss the de-escalation of the conflict in Syria, according to the U.S. Department of state.
In a statement on Friday, the message the state Department noted that U.S. Secretary of state spoke with his Russian counterpart on the phone “about the efforts to de-escalate the ongoing conflict in Syria.”
“The Secretary of state hopes for new meeting with the Minister of foreign Affairs to discuss the appropriate role of the U.S. and Russia to de-escalate the conflict and support the negotiation process in Geneva to promote a political solution,” the document reads.
