Opposing Libyan military agree to unite army

“We, the military, have agreed to unite the army. I hope that & nbsp; this will happen soon without & nbsp; any interference in & nbsp; our military affairs. We are & nbsp; waiting for the & nbsp; committee & ldquo; 5 + 5 & rdquo; to join our meetings. The meetings will be regular, without any foreign interference. We are & nbsp; responsible for & nbsp; protecting the homeland, the constitution and & nbsp; preserving the army & raquo;, & nbsp; & mdash; said acting LNA Commander Abdel Razzak al-Nazouri in a & nbsp; video published by the Libyan news channel Al-Hadas (translated by RIA Novosti).

According to him, the military on both sides “are far from political divisions and political parties.” The comments of the chief of staff of the PNU, Muhammad al-Haddad, are not provided.

At the end of September, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar left the post of commander-in-chief of the LNA for & nbsp; three months. Now, in & nbsp; in accordance with & nbsp; legislation, he & nbsp; is running for & nbsp; as a candidate for & nbsp; President of Libya. The & nbsp; statement of the LNA said that & nbsp; the field marshal instructed the chief of staff to perform his duties until & nbsp; 24 & nbsp; December. Elections are scheduled for & nbsp; on this date in & nbsp; Libya.

After the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in & nbsp; west of Libya, an internationally recognized Government of National Accord operates in & nbsp; Tripoli, in & nbsp; east & nbsp; & mdash; LNA in & nbsp; led by & nbsp; Khalifa Haftar. The presidential elections were supposed to take place in the spring of 2019, but & nbsp; due to & nbsp; the offensive of Khalifa Haftar's forces on & nbsp; Tripoli were postponed indefinitely. The new date was set following the & nbsp; results of the Libyan Forum of Political Dialogue.

The Military Prosecutor under the & nbsp; Ministry of Defense of the PNU Libya, Masoud Rahuma, appealed to the & nbsp; CEC of Libya with & nbsp; a request not & nbsp; not to register Khalifa Haftar at the presidential elections. Mr. Rahuma pointed to the & nbsp; criminal prosecution of the field marshal.

Then the court of appeal in the Libyan capital Tripoli ordered the reinstatement of Khalifa Haftar in the & nbsp; list of candidates for the & nbsp; presidential elections. He was previously dismissed by a lower court.
