MOSCOW, 11 July./ITAR- Russian diplomats will visit Roman Seleznev, who is in Guam, approximately on July 13-14, the Russian Foreign Ministry's representative for human rights, democracy and the rule of law, Konstantin Dolgov, said in his microblog on Twitter.

“We expect the implementation of a consular visit to Russian citizen Seleznev on the island of Guam on approximately July 13-14,” he said. “We will insist on respecting his legal rights and interests, including procedural ones, as a Russian citizen.” As previously reported at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russian citizen Roman Valerievich Seleznev was detained on July 5 at the international airport of the capital of the Maldives, Male. On the same day, he was “forcibly put on a private plane by American Secret Service agents and taken to Guam.”

American investigators suspect Seleznev of being able to steal and then sell credit card information to US consumers between October 2009 and February 2011. In March 2011, in a Washington state court, charges were brought against him in absentia on 29 counts, on the aggregate of which Seleznev could face a prison term of several decades and a fine of millions of dollars. In addition, in the state of Nevada, a criminal case was opened against the Russian on suspicion of involvement in a criminal group engaged in extortion.

The Russian Foreign Ministry regards the incident as “another unfriendly step by Washington.” The department stressed that they are waiting for an explanation from the United States. All possible efforts are also being made to clarify the circumstances of the detention of Roman Seleznev and his early return to his homeland.

Earlier, the father of the detainee, State Duma deputy Valery Seleznev, told ITAR-TASS that the Russian consul in San Francisco should visit Roman on July 13 .
