The date of the launch of the unmanned train in Russia has been announced

NIIAS: unmanned electric train GoA3 will be put into operation in Russia in 2022 The date of the appearance of the new transport was named by Pavel Popov, Deputy Director General of the Research and Design Institute of Informatization, Automation and Communication in Railway Transport (NIIAS), TASS reports.

He spoke at the forum about digital transformation in education, business and the state administration Digital Innopolis Days in Tatarstan. The GoA3 degree of automation assumes that the train moves without direct human involvement. However, a specialist will be present in the cockpit. “The driver will just sit and do nothing,” Popov said.

The project to create unmanned trains began in 2015. Based on the degree of automation, transport was divided into four categories. With GoA1, drivers can rely on automatic assistance systems; with GoA2, trains move unassisted from station to station. The GoA3 category assumes that the driver is in the car, and GoA4 means the complete absence of a person in the cab. At the moment, NIIAS specialists are developing a scheme for the system to work in difficult weather conditions.

Earlier, Deputy Transport Minister Kirill Bogdanov said that by 2024 the first unmanned cargo ferries would start operating in Russia. They will move between the ports of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region and Baltiysk in the Kaliningrad region, the length of the route will reach 480 nautical miles.
