An international festival of Stepan Erzya will be held in Saransk in 2022 … This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Entrepreneurship of the Republic Marina Zhulina, writes TASS.
Zhulina noted that “Erzya” is a brand of Mordovia, since the republic has the largest collection of his works. She also recalled that in Saransk, in the year of the 145th anniversary of the birth of the sculptor, an exhibition was opened, which displays 27 works of the master from the collection of the State Russian Museum – this is how Saransk and Moscow objects of art merged for the first time.
“Next year we will be doing an international event,” Zhulina promised.
In addition, the Deputy Minister added that in 2022 Mordovia will host several more major events, for example, the final of the National Championship “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia), the All-Russian rural sabantuy, the festival of drama theaters “Compatriots”, the festivals “Kurgonya” and ” Spotted fest ”, dog sled race. Among other things, a festival of ethnic Santa Clauses is planned for December.
Stepan Nefedov (Erzya) was born on November 8, 1876 in the village of Baevo, Alatyr district, Simbirsk province. His parents belonged to the Erzya Mari people – he later took such a pseudonym instead of his real surname. The master worked in the “modern” style, survived the First World War, in 1926 he emigrated to Argentina. The sculptor returned to his homeland in 1950, bringing with him a huge collection of his works. Erzya died on November 24, 1959. He was buried in the capital of his native Mordovia – Saransk.
Earlier in October, in the Bashkir State Art Museum named after M.V. Nesterov in Ufa opened the exhibition “From Idea to Implementation” by the Moscow sculptor Vadim Kirillov. The master is known in the republic thanks to such works as “Motherhood” and the memorial to fellow countrymen who went to the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
