“Currently, as part of the ongoing work on the phased introduction of a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation, issued in the form of a plastic card containing an electronic data carrier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, together with the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, as well as with interested state bodies, other bodies and organizations, are working out detailed requirements for the procedure for issuing and processing electronic passports. The planned date for the start of issuing electronic passports is January 2023,” she said on the radio “Militia Wave”.
Kazakova added that the number of issued passports of the new model, first of all, will depend on the desire of citizens to receive them, but, according to forecasts, at the initial stage their number will be at least 100 thousand.
