The restorers will return the historical appearance to the dome of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater by December 2023. The words of the head of the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites in the Novosibirsk Region, Elena Medvedeva, are quoted by Interfax.
Experts said that earlier the roof of the building was single-layer with a graphic ornament in the form of petals. However, during the restorations in 1991 and 2004, the decorative lathing was covered with an additional metal layer. According to Medvedeva, the main idea of the initiative is to restore the domed scales, which have lost their original appearance.
The second idea of the project was to change the rafter system, which is located under the roofing itself. It is known that in the first decades after the opening of the Opera and Ballet Theater, it consisted of ordinary logs. Even before 1991, they were replaced by wooden beams.
Repair and restoration of the entire dome system of the theater is estimated at almost 1.2 billion rubles.
Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, the building of which is the largest theater in the country, opened on May 12, 1945. The building has the status of an object of cultural heritage of Russia.
Earlier in December it became known that in the historical center of the Bashkir capital three old houses are planned to be restored – we are talking about cultural heritage objects “Mansion of the Resurrection”, “House of Tikhonins” and “Bukhartovsky's Estate”.
