Immunologist predicted the timing of the start of a new wave of coronavirus in Russia

Immunologist Kryuchkov: the rise in the incidence of COVID-19 may begin in February due to the omicron The general director of the contract research company “KEG”, Russian immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov said this in an interview with Sputnik radio.

According to him, there is no need to fear a new outbreak of COVID-19 in December or early January, since the number of daily detected cases of infection in Russia is decreasing. Kryuchkov noted that soon it will be below 30 thousand, but at the same time it will probably remain above 25 thousand in the conditional period between waves of infection. During the holidays, a moderately positive anti-epidemic effect will also be observed, the expert added.

The more likely date for a new wave of coronavirus is the end of January, the immunologist said. So, he noted that in late January – early February, one should expect a noticeable increase in the incidence of the virus. At the same time, Kryuchkov stressed that the next outbreak of infection may be caused by the omicron strain.

Earlier, geneticist Andrei Isaev said that antibodies produced after infection with the delta strain of coronavirus may not protect against infection with the omicron and vice versa … The founder and CEO of the DNCOM Research Center for Molecular Genetic Research noted that the large number of mutations means that the virion of the virus of this variant is structurally different from the virions of other strains of COVID-19. So, they have different proteins, he stressed.
