In Germany, they talked about the “mine” laid by Russia under Europe

German columnist FAZ Busse: Russia has laid a mine under the stability of Europe

German columnist Nikolas Busse said Nord Stream 2 has become a strategic mistake for Germany, while Russia has laid a “mine” under the stability and security of Europe. He wrote about this in a column for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ)

In his opinion, the pipeline has never been a “non-political project.”

“American senators and other German partners are not happy that Germany receives additional revenues through cooperation with a country that is constantly laying mines under the stability and security of Europe, “- wrote Busse.

In early December, the Democrats of the US Senate agreed to consider a package of amendments to the country's draft defense budget for the current financial year, which involves the introduction of sanctions for participation in the certification of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

On November 16, Germany suspended the certification of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. German government sources noted that the pipeline's launch could be delayed until March 2022 due to certification issues. The construction of the gas pipeline was completed on September 10. According to Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, on September 6, the Nord Stream 2 construction operator Nord Stream 2 AG informed about the welding of the last pipe in the Baltic Sea.
