In Germany legalized same-sex marriage

Moscow. June 30. INTERFAX.RU — the German Parliament has approved a bill to legalize same-sex marriages. As reported by Deutsche Welle, the document was adopted by majority of votes — “for” 393 deputies voted against and 226, four MPs abstained.

Under the bill, the representatives of sexual minorities will be able to officially marry and will have the same rights as traditional couples.

It is noted that having the majority in the ruling coalition block of parties of the Christian democratic Union and Christian social Union (CDU/CSU), argued against the recognition of same-sex marriage. However, earlier this week the Chancellor of Germany, Christian democratic Union Chairperson Angela Merkel called on party members, so they in this case had decided “in good conscience” rather than on the party position. While Merkel herself voted against it.

According to opinion polls, most people in Germany support the legalization of gay marriage.
