Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, June 24, will arrive in the Crimea, where will take part in the opening ceremony of the shifts in the children’s center “Artek”. This was reported on the official Kremlin website.
The seventh session of the camp “dedicated to the most famous artichoke in the world — American schoolgirl Samantha Smith,” the report says.

Samantha Smith is famous in the world after, in 1982, wrote a letter to the General Secretary of the CPSU Yuri Andropov. She asked the leader of the country, if he was going to war with the US and take over the world. Andropov in response to the letter said that does not want to fight, and invited the girl in the USSR. During the trip she visited including “Artek”. In 1985, Samantha Smith died in a plane crash.
