The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov at the meeting with the state Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sultan bin Ahmed al Jaber stressed that Moscow supports the narrowing differences between Qatar and countries of the region through dialogue. This was announced on Friday, the Russian foreign Ministry following the talks.
“June 16, Lavrov received the Minister of state of UAE Sultan al-Jaber, who arrived in Moscow on a brief working visit, – have informed in the Ministry. In the context of a sharp deterioration of relations between Qatar and several other States in the region, Lavrov stressed that Russia has consistently advocated the settlement of differences through dialogue and to take due account of the known concerns and legitimate national interests, including in the framework of the consolidation of efforts in the fight against terrorism.”
June 5, Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Yemen, Libya’s interim government, the Republic of Maldives and Republic of Mauritius announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Qatar, citing the Emirate’s support of terrorism and extremist ideology, and its hostile policies and intervention in the Affairs of Arab States. Later they were joined by Mauritania and Comoros, Jordan and Djibouti downgraded its diplomatic representation. In Doha, consider these actions unjustified, and charges in the address groundless.
