In the Turkish capital Ankara has begun the trial of 221 alleged participant in the rebellion. On Monday, may 22, reports the Hürriyet Daily News.
Among the defendants are high-ranking military officers, who are accused of the capture of the Turkish General staff: 24 generals, 26 colonels and Lieutenant colonels.
According to the publication, currently detained 200 people, nine of them under house arrest and another 12 on the run. Among them residing in the United States the opposition of the Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, whom the Turkish authorities accuse him of organizing a coup.
The defendants face life imprisonment or long prison term.
