In the center of Moscow on Bolshaya Lubyanka, archaeologists found a wooden bridge of XVII-XVIII centuries, in monitoring the repair of water supply, reported on the website of the municipality.
It is noted that under the layer of soil at a depth one to two metres were logs, and over a wooden bridge it was found the pavement of a later period: cobblestones XIX — early XX century. In narrow trenches, the scientists also found dozens of artifacts, confirming that this place was a dense traffic: horseshoe, Shoe heels, copper coins, nails and pottery.
“Most of the small finds Great success belongs to the XIX century. Archaeologists explain this by the fact that the neighborhood, on Lubyanka square, then there was a fountain with drinking water, and the townspeople often came to him. Besides, the drivers stayed on Bolshaya Lubyanka to dial in the water fountain for horses”, — stated in the message.
In the area of Old square, scientists have found traces of filled-up ditches relating to the defense of the wall of China-town, dug in the XVI century. According to experts, these ditches and the wall was to protect the center of Moscow from the invasion of the Crimean Khan makhmet-Girey, writes kp.ru.
Further small artefacts after studying to be transferred to the funds of the Museum or join the exhibition of the finds of the program “My street”. Overhead, the remnants of the defensive moat, ramparts and bastions after the description will be preserved: they will be covered with soil, it is noted on the website of the municipality.
At the end of March when monitoring of the preparatory work on the program “My street”, the archaeologists found at the base of the Kitay-Gorod wall “hearing” — the chamber of secrets, helped the defenders of Moscow in the XVI century to eavesdrop on the enemy on the other side of fortress construction.
