In the foreign Ministry told about the main theme of the forthcoming meeting of Lavrov and Tillerson
The main theme of negotiations of the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary Rex Tillerson will be the situation in Syria.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said after talks with his us counterpart Thomas Shannon in new York, reports TASS.
I assume that there [at the meeting of Lavrov and Tillerson] the focus will be on Syria, so Mr. Shannon has done work in some way, probably by facilitating the bilateral agenda for Ministers.Sergey Raskolnista of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation
He noted that this was done in order that the heads of the foreign ministries of Russia and the United States “had more time to engage Syria and other international issues.”
Ryabkov said that during his talks with Shannon, he discussed “the most complex, chronic, difficult-to-resolve problems” in bilateral relations of Russia and the USA, reports “RIA Novosti”. He noted that his meeting with Deputy U.S. Secretary of state “was a step in the implementation of the agreement Lavrov and Tillerson” about creation of working group which will be “most acute” bilateral issues.
However, Deputy foreign Minister of Russia noted that progress in relations between Moscow and Washington is “not guaranteed”. He stressed that the main thing is that “there is interest on both sides not to stop”. Ryabkov stressed that during the meeting with Shannon he had not discussed the situation in Ukraine and Syria, and did not raise any international issues.
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov will visit the U.S. on a working visit from 9 to 11 may. This will be his first visit under the new administration of President Donald trump.
With Tillerson Lavrov will meet may 10 in Washington. The head of the Russian and American foreign Ministers plan to discuss “key international problems and relevant issues of bilateral relations,” noted the Russian foreign Ministry.
In turn, the State Department reported that Lavrov and Tillerson to discuss, including the Syrian and Ukrainian crises. In Ukraine the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia and US Secretary of state talk about the need to “stop violence in the East” and the resolution of conflict through the implementation of the Minsk agreements. On Syria Tillerson plans to discuss the de-escalation of the conflict in the Republic, the delivery of humanitarian assistance and preparing “the ground for political agreement on the conflict”.
After meeting with Tillerson Lavrov will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he will participate in the Ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council.
