Putin asks Prosecutor General and the interior Minister to check on the situation of gays in Chechnya

MOSCOW, 5 may — RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised the Commissioner for human rights Tatyana Moskalkova that will ask the Prosecutor General and the interior Minister to assist in the verification of the situation in the North Caucasus Federal district with homosexual people.

During the meeting with the President Moskalkova recalled that it deals with the problem of violations of the rights of homosexual people. “I sent several petitions to the Prosecutor’s office, investigative bodies. And I would ask you to instruct, perhaps to establish an interdepartmental working group which could, in the Central part, not on the territory of Chechnya, to accept complaints from citizens, if any,” said she.

“Today, the validation is hampered by the fact that people are not willing to give his name. However, our law on the protection of witnesses, victims allows to use the powerful levers of state protection and to maintain the confidentiality of those who apply, give them the ability to encrypt their name, to give other documents, if they are willing to Express themselves, then we will be ready to defend and restore the rights” — said Moskalkova, speaking about the problem.

“I would just like to say that, of course, I will discuss it with the attorney General and Minister of internal Affairs so that they support you on the topic that you raised now, according to the known information or rumors you can say, about what is happening in the North Caucasus with people of different sexual orientation. It goes without saying,” said Putin, adding that he hoped the response of the interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General and support.
