The March for the preservation of the Museum “St. Isaac’s Cathedral” takes place in Saint-Petersburg. On it informs Agency “news of Neva”.

The event was coordinated with the city authorities, however, all participants did not fit in the space, the so-called “Hyde Park” on Marsovo pole, and began to be placed around its perimeter. “Fontanka” notes that at a rally attended by several thousand people.

The scene were deputies of the legislative Assembly Oksana Dmitriev, Maxim Reznik, Alexei Kovalev, Boris Vishnevsky, the actor Ivan Krasko and directed by Yuri Mamin. On the back of the leaflets with the resolution of the meeting printed text, new songs of the bard Alexander Gorodnitsky on the events around St. Isaac’s Cathedral: “we will Not live in darkness, choking on bitter smoke, our beloved Isaac shall never surrender”. Members sing it as a hymn.

TASS with reference to the organizing Committee informs that the date of the action chosen by chance: the meeting is timed to the 30th anniversary of the protection of activists from the demolition of hotel Angleterre in the city center. According to the head of the Commission for education, culture and science of legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Maxim Reznik, “Isaac’s question” became a mirror of the situation around the monuments of the city.

In January, the St. Petersburg authorities have agreed to transfer the St. Isaac Cathedral, the Russian Orthodox Church for free use for 49 years. Governor Georgy Poltavchenko promised to keep the Museum function of the building, however this decision has caused the dissatisfaction of many citizens.
