According to her, currently, the Western districts of the city controlled by the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG banned in Russia), left nearly 100 thousand people, half of whom were placed in camps Kiara and jada.

“The number of people more than expected, said Grande. — If the pace (of the Exodus from Mosul — approx. TASS) will accelerate, it will exhaust our possibilities to the limit”. As the representative of the United Nations, if in one day the city will leave 50 million people, the system of distribution of refugees may fail. Fearing such a scenario, the UN and partners of the world organization started to build new centres.

According to estimates of the office of the UN high Commissioner for refugees (UNHCR), a total of Western Mosul due to the fighting can leave up to 250 thousand people. As reported by Lise Grande, now in ISIS controlled part of the city are from 650 to 680 thousand people.

“We fear that civilians blocked and are in an extremely difficult position. Families that expose themselves to danger, families who leave, is also at risk,” — said the representative of the United Nations. She drew attention to the reports that the militants crack down on those who are trying to escape from the besieged city. According to the UN, the city ran out of food and drinking water and regular supply of humanitarian aid to the city ceased in November last year.

The campaign for the release of the second-largest settlement of Iraq and the main Bastion of Isil in the country began on 17 October last year. By the end of January under the control of the authorities moved East of Mosul, on 19 February, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi launched the offensive on the Western quarters of the city.
