Syria urged the UN to stop the strikes of the coalition’s dams on the Euphrates
MOSCOW, 17 Mar — RIA Novosti. The Syrian government called on the UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres to halt air strikes on the dams on the Euphrates river from the anti-ISIS coalition led by the United States.
“The destruction of these dams, which were targeted by airstrikes, wash off and flood towns and villages, endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands of people living in these areas”, — stated in the letter from the chargé d’affaires of the mission of Syria at the UN Munzer Munzer, which directed the Secretary-General and the security Council.
“The Syrian Arab Republic calls on the Security Council to fulfill its obligations for maintenance of international peace and security and to take urgent measures, sparing the region from an impending catastrophe”, — stated in the message.
