The Pentagon is ready to double the number of us troops in Syria
Moscow. March 15. INTERFAX.RU — the Pentagon plans to send at least 1 thousand troops to Syria on the eve of the attack on the city of Raqqa, according to The Washington Post, citing a Ministry official familiar with the situation.
According to the newspaper, the us military had prepared a plan, which involves the deployment of up to 1,000 extra troops in Syria in the coming weeks, thus expanding the “American military presence in the country before the offensive operations on the de facto capital of the Islamic state (a terrorist organization banned in Russia — if) Raqqa”.
It is noted that in the case of the approval of the President, Donald trump and Minister of defense James Mattis of the plan, the number of American troops in Syria will potentially be doubled
In the newspaper report highlighted that if more troops are sent, they will support the Kurdish and Arab armed groups. According to the plan, the us military will, in the first place, to act as advisors, assisting in demining and coordinating aviation support for the coalition.
The representative of the international coalition John Dorrian March 9 announced that the United States sends to Syria for additional 400 troops.
“We can say that approximately 400 additional troops will be temporarily deployed to assist our allies in the assault on Raqqa,” said Dorrian.
