The decision to extend EU sanctions against Russia entered into force

The EU Council decision on extending a black list of citizens of Russia and Ukraine for six months joined with environment effect. The validity of this sanction sheet, according to a published Tuesday in the EU Official journal the text of the resolution, to expire September 15, 2017.

“The Council extended for six months, the validity of individual sanctions against individuals and legal entities of the Russian Federation and Ukraine responsible for destabilizing the situation in Ukraine”, – said in a statement. The decision comes into force from the day following the day of publication.

In the sanctions list of the EU included 150 individuals, including representatives of the Russian authorities, Russian politicians, businessmen and security forces, as well as the leaders of the proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk national republics (DND and LNR). From the list were previously excluded former Prime Minister LNR Gennady Tsepkalo, a former commander of the militia DND Arsen Pavlov (call sign Motorola) in connection with their deaths. The list also included 37 organizations, they all have different military and political structure of the DNI and the LC, which European businesses are prohibited to maintain any relationship. All persons listed in the list of banned entry to the EU, and their assets, in case of detection in European banks, are subject to freezing.

The last time this list was extended on 15 September last year.

Blacklist for Russia and Ukraine is only one of the three independent packages of EU sanctions. Until the end of July 2017 are sectoral economic restrictions that have been extended every six months. Until June 23, 2017 are trading and visa restrictive measures in respect of Crimea and its residents in the framework of the EU strategy of non-recognition of the reunification of the Peninsula with Russia, which are renewed on an annual basis.
