The deputies of Sevastopol approved the order of election of Governor

Members of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol adopted on second and final reading a bill on the procedure for carrying out direct elections of the Governor, reports TASS on Tuesday, March 14.

“”For” — 19, “against” — no abstentions — no, voted 19 deputies. The law was adopted”, — announced the results of voting the speaker of the regional Parliament Catherine Altabaeva.

According to the law, the mayor is elected on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot for a term of five years. Candidates for this post are nominated by political parties, the candidate may be nominated in the ranks of his political strength and to be non-partisan supporter. In addition, the candidate must pass the so-called municipal filter to collect signatures in support of his nomination in the municipal districts of Sevastopol.

Presenting the bill Deputy Victor Posmitny explained that the parliamentarians had been eight amendments to the acting Governor of Sevastopol Dirtier Ovsyannikov and deputies from the LDPR faction, says “Criminals”.

Amendments of the mayor, related to the adjustment to the number of municipalities (from 7.5 to 8), where a candidate must collect signatures in his support, was approved by the parliamentary Committee. The legislative initiative of the faction of the liberal democratic party, which dealt with the reduction of the municipal filter to 7 percent (at current 10), and limitations on voting rights for certain categories of citizens — were not recommended for adoption.

On 24 November last year, the legislative Assembly adopted amendments to the Charter of Sevastopol, according to which the city introduced the direct election of the Governor. Prior to that, he was elected legislative Assembly from among candidates proposed by the head of state.

Elections of the head of the Sevastopol is scheduled for September 10, 2017.
